About the Role

Enphase is looking for a dynamic, Principal Engineer – Systems Engineering to lead some of our upcoming Energy management system project using photo voltaic inverter, Lithium ion-based Energy storage product, auto transfer switch, gateway and multiple UI software products. In this position, the successful candidate will lead the system architecture, design, development, integration and validation of Energy storage system for commercial markets.

What you will be doing

  • Serve as the hands-on central technical systems leader for cross-functional teams including electrical hardware, firmware, software, mechanical engineering, validation, and quality/reliability groups
  • Use rich experience in the systems engineering domain to drive the architecture and development of energy storage systems
  • Participate in early-stage system product developments and ensure successful capture of design & development, test & certification, and service/repair requirements
  • Author the Systems Requirement Document (SRD) along with architectural documents including but not limited to interface documents, sequence diagrams, and integration plans
  • Participate in integration efforts once prototypes are available in the systems engineering labs, including communication and power testing, to ensure the design meets system requirements
  • Lead project execution and pass through multiple stage gates, including owning the design soak in Alpha and Beta, until launching the project to the market
  • Perform grid code compliance studies (steady state, transients, power quality) for grid-tied and grid-agnostic systems
  • Perform failure analysis, troubleshoot, and identify the root cause of complex system-level issues with no supervision
  • Guide system commissioning tool development for the Energy Management System
  • Reproduce field failures in the lab to identify root causes and drive cross-functional teams toward appropriate solutions
  • Work in a high-energy, fast-paced environment with a bias for action
  • Mentor and train junior engineers in the team

Who you are and What you bring

  • ME/MTech in Electrical Engineering with 12+ years’ experience or PhD in Electrical Engineering with 8+ years of experience in Power Electronics or Power System Design
  • Experience in developing systems that have a mix of HW, FW, and SW
  • In-depth knowledge of electrical engineering concepts, including circuit theory and power systems
  • In-depth understanding of system architecture and system design principles
  • A relentless focus on execution with an ability to dig deep into the details when required to solve problems
  • Strong analytical, decision-making, and leadership skills
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with cross-functional teams
  • Familiarity with energy storage, microgrid, and renewable energy systems
  • Experience in modelling and simulation of power electronics or power system components
  • Experience in MATLAB Simulink modelling, integration, and debug skills
  • Experience in frequency domain analysis such as Bode, Nyquist plots, and time domain analysis
  • Ability to understand and analyse complex control algorithms, debug, and root cause complex system issues
  • Knowledge of lithium-ion based energy storage systems and battery management systems
  • Experience in grid-tied inverter design and understanding of advanced grid profile functions
